Teacher Tips/ New Blog Design
The first year I taught, a mentor teacher taught me this trick and I just thought it was the best idea ever. Every year I give the students a number. On everything I write their number. Pencils and each individual crayon. How many times have you found a crayon on the floor??? Well this helps solve that problem. If you notice on every crayon is their number. (I know I'm a little OCD) All I have to do is pick up the crayon and know exactly who's crayon it is. It helps with those kids that lose all of their stuff by the end of the year. No crayon in my class gets thrown away because we know exactly who's crayon it is. It's funny how it teaches them responsibility too because they don't want their number called out when someone finds a crayon or pencil.

Love the new look! I think this is a wonderful idea. Really teaches responsibility and respect for other people's belongings.

Thank you! I agree!
DeleteThe blog design is awesome. I will be numbering everything. Great idea! Worth the time and effort. It is always amazing to me how people (kids and adults) don't take care of their belongings because they think everything can be replaced.

Thank you so much, I agree it takes forever to write the numbers on everything but It's so worth it if you do it. That was my class last year just no respect for things.
DeleteI love your new blog design! Misty & Erika also did my blog design & I couldn't love it more!! Your new look is great!! :)

What a brilliant idea! Numbering everything! I can't imagine how much time that takes, but as the old saying goes, "A stitch in time saves 9" (lots of time finding what belongs to whom! lol). I haven't been in a classroom since I had my first child 4 years ago, but work with her at home quite a bit. Sometimes I really miss teaching. Then I remember that I don't have to get up before dawn, and I forget all that! lol But maybe when she's 5 and goes to Kindergarten, I'll go back. :) I just followed...and I look forward to reading more!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE numbering my kiddos' things each year! It definitely helps so much!! :)

Oh man. I used to number all of my students crayons and pencils. I know how long that must have taken you. Good job to you. :-)

I also number my students, but I haven't numbered their individual items! I love it!
ReplyDeleteMy Teacher Tip link is about numbering my students as well! Your blog is adorable by the way!

I know lots of people who do this and it works really well if you have individual supply boxes, etc. I can see how this is definitely worth your while if it cuts down on arguments and helps kids to be responsible for individual belongings! :)

I have seen the number idea, but I love it for use on every single number, but I never thought of it for every last crayon. When things are not cleaned up (and all over the floor), no one ever wants to claim them!

I've always put their numbers on pretty much everything, but I've never done individual crayons before! You're worse than I am! (Fantastic idea!) Love the new blog design!
